Royal International Air Tattoo 2014

I managed to get to the Royal International Air Tattoo this weekend for the first time. As a child i remember Family Days on base, looking round hangars, climbing in Chinooks and Tornadoes, and occasionally attending airshows, Hearing jets or helicopters overhead wasn't unusual throughout my schooldays. Witnessing these incredible machines in action yesterday after so many years, was unbelievably nostalgic to the point of tears. I didnt realise how much happiness I could gain from the roar and rumble of the Typhoon and the Tornado, or the deafening bladeslap from the Chinook. How glorious to spend a day gazing skyward, enthralled by an emotional display from The Bomber and Spitfires, an Apache helicopter demo complete with pyrotechnics, the heart-stoppingly spectacular 50th anniversary display from the Red Arrows Hawk Jets and much, much more. Despite the clouds and spots of rain, I had one of the best days out. There aren't many days on civvy street where i can say my heart soared up in the clouds with the jets. I am feeling so remarkably proud to be an R.A.F Brat, even after all these years :) xx
